Company History
With nearly a decade of experience as a plumber and gas fitter, Rick Kirkland founded Protech Plumbing in 1982. His expertise and reputation as a top-tier gas fitter quickly gained him recognition, leading to the company’s growth in 1993 when Sterling joined as an apprentice. Sterling soon earned his Class A Journeyman certification from Calgary’s SAIT. In 2008, Protech expanded again with Jesse, who completed his own apprenticeship and earned his Class A Journeyman certification.
For over 20 years, Rick, Sterling, and Jesse worked together to build a stellar reputation, earning the trust of homeowners, contractors, and City inspectors alike. Their commitment to quality workmanship and exceptional customer service earned them multiple “best of the best” accolades, establishing Protech Plumbing as a leader in the industry. Today, Protech continues to thrive thanks to the solid foundation they built together.
In Memory of Rick Kirkland

Rick Kirkland, our founder, passed away in 2019 after a brave battle with cancer. His daughter, Sascha Kirkland, inherited the company and, following Rick’s wishes, entrusted ownership to Sterling and Jesse. Rick was more than a founder—he was a mentor, a beloved friend, and treated everyone like family. His legacy and spirit will always be honored at Protech Plumbing.
